Chapters Transcript Video Pregnancy Complications and Cardiovascular Outcomes Back to Symposium Hi everyone. I'm on a mentos and I'm an assistant professor in cardiology at johNS Hopkins University. It's my pleasure today to tell you about an upcoming scientific session at the American Heart Association meeting in november in Chicago. This session will be called pregnancy complications and cardiovascular outcomes. Why do we care about pregnancy complications and cardiovascular disease? As many of you may know maternal mortality is rising in the United States along with severe maternal morbidity, with cardiovascular diseases being the leading cause of both. So in this session we will be talking about the association of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy in general with cardiovascular disease in women, whether that's cardiovascular disease that occurs during pregnancy in the short term postpartum within the first year or long term, that places that woman at increased risk heart disease throughout her lifespan. We will also be discussing racial disparities that unfortunately plagued the maternal health space with the ultimate goal being to improve health equity and increase the diversity of representation of women that are in clinical studies and trials related to maternal health. I look forward to joining you all at the american Heart Association meeting.
