Spine neurosurgeon Ali Bydon discusses the case of a young athletic male with a nerve sheath tumor wrapped around his L4 nerve, which allows one to dorsiflex and walk. Due to the risk of foot paralysis with resection, Bydon observed the tumor for 2 1/2 years before performing intradural tumor resection, laminectomy, complete facetectomy and stabilization. The tumor was removed entirely, and the patient is back to running.
